Rescaping
Rescaping was a two-part project for me, an exploration of my artistic process, specifically screenprinting and the reproduction of my photographs. Since I have learned the process of screenprinting, I have thought a lot about how I want my photographs to be reproduced and the variation I can get out of one photograph in just one session of printing. It was also a chance to explore the impacts of city building on the environment and the taking of space by the human population. Stemming from Chicago’s motto of “Urbs in Horto” or “City in a Garden” and a love of foliage and botanical elements, I wanted to depict Chicago being taken over by plant life as a reclaiming or “rescaping” of the land by the Earth.
